1Passsword crash on macos - any site using basic auth.

It seems that since moving to 1Password 8 any attempt to open 1Password quick access to search for & copy credentials into a basic auth dialogue will cause 1Password to crash.

I have tested with multiple browsers and the result is the same. This does only seem to affect 1Password 8 for macOS (not Windows).

Any advice as-to a work around (or a fix) would be greatly appreciated.

1Password Version: 8.9.4
Extension Version: 2.3.7 (firefox) / 2.3.8 (safari) / 2.4.5 (chrome)
OS Version: macOS 12.6

  • Hi @cdowning

Sorry to hear about these crashes. Are you bringing up Quick Access by using ⇧⌘Space (Shift–Command–Space) or ⌘\ (Command–Backslash), the autofill shortcut? If you haven't tried both yet, could you, and let me know what happens in both cases? I look forward to hearing how you get on. :)

Hey Grey, thanks for getting back to me.
It doesn't matter what method I use to invoke 1Password, ⌘Space, ⌘\ or click 1Password icon in menubar and select "Open Quick Access". If one password is unlocked, it'll crash.

Hmm. That's not something I've encountered yet, so it'd be a good idea if we can get a look at a diagnostics report and some crash reports to work out what happened.

I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your Mac:

How to send a 1Password diagnostics report

If you can also find any crash reports related to 1Password in macOS's Console utility, please include those. If not, since the crash is so reproducible, if you could cause the crash, then copy and paste the "Show Details" section of the crash popup into a text file and attach that to your email, that would be very helpful indeed.

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.

    With your email please include:

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!
