Why can't I generate a new password in the 1Password app?

The 1Password app seems to lack the ability to generate new passwords. What could be more basic for a password manager??? I learned from searching this Forum that I can leave the 1Password app, open a browser, launch the browser extension, click on the Settings icon, and there, incongruously, click on the Password Generator. Or, as described by another Forum user, within the 1Password app, I can generate a new password by:

opening the 1Password application
clicking the "+ New Item" button
clicking "Login" under "Get Started"
clicking in the "Password" field
clicking "Create a New Password"
clicking "Use"
copying the password from the "password" field
clicking the "X" in the upper right corner of the "New Item" box
clicking "Discard Changes"
exiting 1Password
The new password is on the clipboard for pasting wherever it is needed.

When will the 1Password app offer an efficient way to generate a new password, when the user wants to? How many updates have you released since version 8, to get us to 8.9.4? My impression from reading this Forum is that user comments don't have much influence, and that useful features that you remove are unlikely to return to the program, no matter how many users ask for them. Is it correct that the development team hates to bring back features that they removed?

1Password Version: 8.9.4
Extension Version: NA
OS Version: 12.6
Browser:_ NA

  • Hello @Nekoninda! 👋

If you're generating a password for a website then 1Password will suggest a new password right on the page:

You can read more about generating passwords in the browser here: Get started with 1Password in your browser

If you're not generating passwords in the browser then can you tell me a little more about your use case? It sounds like you're trying to generate a password without saving it in 1Password, I'd love to pass along your specific requirements and need for such a feature to our Product team so that they can look into this. 🙂
