Auto-generated password lost

Often when I create a new password using within-field auto-suggestion drop-downs, 1Password does not save my password. Sometimes I have successfully fixed the broken modal in step 3 (below) by reloading the page.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Visit a site like https://learn.datadoghq.com
2. Complete sign-up form and use auto-suggested password
3. Note that modal where 1Password will save the password does not render correctly (see screenshot)
4. Complete signup using tab key (behind broken 1Password modal)
5. There is no record of auto-generated password in 1Password

1Password Version: Mac 8.9.8 (80908009)
Extension Version: 2.3.8
OS Version: macOS Ventura 13.0 (22A380) M1 Pro
Browser:_ Firefox 106.0.4 (64-bit)

  • Hey @irrationality,

I'm sorry for the trouble you are having when saving a password, it definitely doesn't sound like things are working as they should be.

I'd like to ask you to recreate the issue and send over a console log from your browser as well as a diagnostics report:

Please attach the reports to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com with a link to this thread.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!

The reported issue provides the URL at which the problem occurs. Please attempt to re-create the issue on your own and let me know if you cannot reproduce; I have encountered this error multiple times on multiple computers (always in Firefox, IIRC).

Hi @irrationality, I tested the site and 1Password works on it fine on my end: https://share.cleanshot.com/lGqd65. That said, the signup page that I'm on seems different from yours. How did you get to that page where you're only asked for the new password and org info?

Additionally, do you get this issue when signing up on other websites? Can you try it from here: https://fill.dev/form/login-simple?

Thanks for the report, Joy_1P. Y'all have great issue reporting instructions.

Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce the issue, either. It has been intermittent over the past several months and I don't yet understand the root cause. I suspected uBlock Origin, but my wife's browser does not have that installed (and we once encountered the same issue).

I signed up for Datadog through a course page (sorry; had not recalled that detail):
    1. Visit a course, like https://learn.datadoghq.com/courses/dd-101-sre
    2. Click 'Enroll for free' button
    3. Enter a name and email and submit form
    4. Next page asks you to set a password

I also tested registration on fill.dev and 1Password works as expected.

Will hopefully be able to report back with better diagnostic information next time this occurs, although I doubt it'll be easy. To inspect the 1Password extension information, I'll have to enable the monitoring and reload the page... which will probably cause the injected modal to start working again.

Extension inspection HAR file emailed, but I didn't receive an email back.
