please clarify "family accounts" users

I just signed up for family license (version 8), expecting to sign up my wife and 2 children. To me, that means signing up 4 (out of possible 5) users.

Problem: some of us have multiple e-mail addresses, used for different purposes. For example, I have four e-mails personally, but only my "jocdoc"-related one is registered with 1password.

Is each user considered as a single e-mail account? Or, can each user register multiple e-mails (I don't see the latter as an option and this is not addressed/specified in any of your plan info).

In other words, if I want protection for four e-mail addresses (just for myself), that would leave only a single e-mail registration available for my family members. Is that correct? if this is the case (i.e. only a single e-mail address per user), it seems that the naming of this plan as "family" is misleading/inaccurate. Perhaps renaming/delineating plans as those for single e-mail coverage vs multiple e-mail coverage would be more appropriate/straightforward?

On the other hand, if you truly consider a family plan to consist of 5 users (rather than 5 e-mail accounts), is there a way to add additional e-mail addresses to an individual user's account that I'm missing? Can I add my additional addresses to my current plan and still enroll my family members?

I've gone thru your website and googled many articles, but could not find this addressed anywhere. Please clarify the different account plans with attention to greater specificity regarding how many e-mail accounts per user.

thanks, in advance.

If you want 4 members of your family use 1Password, that's 4 users of a family account. How many different email addresses these people use is not relevant to 1Password. Of course each person sign in to 1Password with one and only one email address, usually their "main" address, but every entry in 1Password can store information and credentials of any email address in the world and is not connected to the account email address.

You mention "protection" of email addresses - 1Password is not an email protection company. It stores account information (login credentials and other noteworthy information) securely, but it is not some email provider or email filter. 1Password is nothing else than a database that securely stores vital personal information of all kind and and provides clients for easy and comfortable retrieval.

I have 1 family account with 2 members. My vaults contain about 180 login and other entries, and quite some different email addresses are mentioned in these. There is no limit with these.

Thanks for responding; i may not have been using proper terminology - i understand the database vs protection thing.

Let me be more specific: I log in under a single e-mail address, let's say "jocdoc@A.com". But I have other addresses ("jocdoc@B.com and jocdoc@C.com). When I use those latter two accounts to order things online, I do not receive option to scramble those passwords, nor do I see a way to enter them separately under my primary account. Am I missing something?

    Thanks, in advance.

You create 3 separate login entries in 1Password for your 3 shop logins. One for each email address. If it's the same shop, the 1Password client will let you choose one of these when you log in to that shop. If they are different shops, 1Password will just offer the one entry whose stored website address matches the website you're actually requesting.

If it comes to storing new credentials, I'm not entirely sure how it currently works, because it's somewhat automated without me realizing that it happens. Usually, it starts when you log in to some website you don't currently have any credentials stored yet. You enter your email address or login name and password the website asks for login. If you already have a login and want to create another, type the other credentials. In the past, 1Password offered to save the credentials after you filled the fields right before you submit the login on the website. If not, you need to do this manually (right-click the browser extension icon->Save login). As far as I remember, 1Password doesn't ask to save your login after you submitted the web form as it works for many other password managers. (A flaw, if you ask me)

Creating additional logins for the same website is slightly unexpected for 1Password, I guess it will try to update an existing entry first, because that's what the vast majority of users want to do in the first place.
However, you can always create new login entries directly in the 1Password app. There is a prominent "+ New Object" everywhere.
Don't forget to install the desktop app or mobile app. Don't just use the browser extension. The browser extension has limited functionality and is mainly a companion for browser autofill. The full power of 1Password is in the desktop/mobile app.

Thanks - I'm still trying to sort this out. For example, I'm registered with my main password, but when I deal with important documents involving a different e-mail, I don't see how to get them covered with 1PW. Guess I'm looking for step-by-step instructions on how to handle multiple e-mails per user, and with several users. If you can point me towards that info, it would be great!
