Always have to fill forms twice in Chrome when 1Password is locked
Recently I've noticed that whenever I try to use the 1Password extension in Chrome on macOS, I have to click twice to get the login form to fill in. I've done some experimenting and narrowed it down to one specific pattern:
- 1Password is locked.
- In Chrome, go to a form you want to fill in, and click the 1Password logo that appears in the form field.
- Unlock 1Password and then pick the account details you want to use.
- The form stays blank.
- Click the form field logo again, pick the account again.
- The form gets filled in.
I've noticed that if I click the 1Password extension button at the top of the window, instead of clicking the button in the form field, then the fill-in works right the first time after I unlock. I've also found that the workflow I described above works fine in Firefox, so this seems to be a Chrome-specific issue. It has persisted through several updates to Chrome.
1Password Version: 8.9.8
Extension Version: 2.5.0
OS Version: macOS 11.7.1
Browser:_ Chrome 108.0.5359.71

Hey @autojack, that is a strange behavior. Are you able to save a test login on https://fill.dev/form/login-simple and then check to see if you run into the same issue when filling there?
If you do, please send over the following so we can take a closer look at what may be going on:
- The extension console log: https://support.1password.com/cs/extension-console-log/
Attach the logs to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.
With your email please include:
- A link to this thread: https://1password.community/discussion/135751/always-have-to-fill-forms-twice-in-chrome-when-1password-is-locked#latest
- Your forum username: autojack
You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks!

Hi, I've been seeing the same behaviour in recent weeks. Very consistent and repeatable.

Hey @mattf606,
I believe you could be running into a known issue that we have published a fix for in the latest Beta version.
Could you give the Beta a try and let us know if the behaviour improves?
Here's how: 1Password Beta - Password Manager - Chrome Web Store
Let us know how you get on!

@steph.giles I've just tried out the extension beta - now when 1Password is locked, if I click the icon in the web form it shows a tooltip asking me to unlock first by clicking the 1Password button in the toolbar. Is that the expected behavior? If so, it seems like a reasonable solution, as it leads you to the workflow that works correctly.
