secret key--not so secret

Are there any suggestions (besides writing it down, and keeping it your pocket) to moving the secret key to new locations/devices.

How are folks sending the secret key to the new device?

Hi @1passquest , thanks for the question!

Here are a couple ways you can use your Secret Key:

    1. As you mentioned, you can print a physical copy of the Emergency Kit (which has the Secret Key printed on it) and reference that when setting up on a new device
    2. If you're installing 1Password on a new desktop device (like a MacBook), you can store the Secret Key in 1Password, open 1Password on your phone, and use that as a reference.
    3. You can also access your Secret Key by signing into your account at 1Password.com on the new device. Optionally, you can also use this to download a copy of your Emergency Kit from there (which can be used to autofill your SK during the first sign-in on this device by choosing the Sign in With Emergency Kit option).
    4. The Secret Key also also lives in iCloud Keychain (if you have keychain turned on) to simplify signing in on other Apple devices.

And if this is your first time getting set up with 1Password, our team will be happy to help smooth the path for you - feel free to contact us at support@1password.com for individual help with the steps if you feel so inclined.
