Hello,
My method: I encrypt Emergency Kit 1Password.pdf and I keep this crypted file on my computer and on an external device.0 -
Coming from last pass, i initially was worried about how to secure the secret key, but in thinking about it, in the very worst case scenario, if your secret key gets hacked, you are then AS secure as all the other password managers, because they dont offer that level of protection. AND unlike LastPass, you have no unencrypted stuff in the server.
just an observation

Hey @1passquest, thanks for reaching out. An excellent way to secure your Emergency Kit would be to print a copy and store it in a safe deposit box.
@Ekalb, that's a great suggestion for digital storage 👍

i would like to be able to encyrpt the secret key before i download. for example. 1password, would ask me for a password (not my 1password password), and i would get a pdf encrypted with the secret key. that way i can distribute it to all my computers without an issue

Hello,
Everything about encryption is happening locally on your device.
Read this : https://1password.com/security/0 -
so what does 1password use as a salt for the password?

You can find details about the salt and our cryptography in our security white paper: Security White Paper
The answer to your question can be found on page 19 and further details on the salt can be found on page 36.
I hope that helps! 🙂
