I 've been a happy 1Password user on iOS and Macs for years. Just decided to make the switch to 8 on iOS (already switched one of my Macs). Is there a technical reason why the upgrade is not a simple upgrade button on 7 to move to 8? Anyway, I found the download button, and install. That worked great! I click around in 1password8 on iOS and everything looks great!

Ok next surprise 1password7 is still there :) Hmm boot up the laptop, google search, and I find this outstanding thread ! awesome.
This gives me confidence that i should just delete 7. There will be some "growing pain" as I get 8 integrated , i.e. get the right permissions back on iOS, in browsers, ...

When I booted 1password 8 for the first time there are a number of "help" type messages that come up in the app. I didn't see one for "Hey 1password7 is still installed adn you can/should delete it at any time" . Is there such an article? Why isn't it the first thing i see when I launched 1password 8 for the first time?

    Thanks for listening!

  • Hello @tsee! πŸ‘‹

I've split your comment into a new thread. πŸ™‚

I'm sorry that the upgrade process was confusing. 1Password 8 is more than an update: it’s a brand new app that has been completely rewritten from scratch. For that reason, 1Password 7 will not automatically upgrade to 1Password 8. Once you've confirmed that you can see all of your items in 1Password 8 you can remove the old 1Password 7 app.

Don't forget to turn on Password AutoFill for 1Password 8 so that you can save and fill items:

    1. On the Home screen, tap Settings.
    2. Tap Passwords > Password Options.
    3. Turn on AutoFill Passwords.
    4. Select 1Password.

I'm not 100% sure that this is something that the 1Password 8 app can detect due to the app sandboxing that exists on iOS. However, I'll pass this suggestion on to the product team as it certainly sounds like it would be helpful.

Thank you for the feedback and I'm sorry again for the frustration.

hi Dave, Thanks for the reply!
on my Mac 1password8 Settings - I don't see "Password". I do see "General" and in that there is a heading "Autofill" with a checkbox "submit automatically with Universal Autofil" which I have checked. Is that what you mean?
    thanks,
    Tom

Dave's instructions will only apply to 1Password for iOS. On a Mac, you'll need to make sure you have installed 1Password in the browser:

☞ Get started with 1Password in your browser

In 1Password's Settings, choose the Browser tab and make sure that "Connect with 1Password in the browser" is turned on. Let us know how you get on. :)
