Feature req: Allow user to change default options when clicking username, password, or website
Hi 1Password team.
I actually have seen this request a bunch, even from 6-7 years ago, so I'm just reiterating what has already been said. When using MacOS 1Password 8 app, there are options when clicking these three common fields. I see many users might like to change the default behavior.
For me this is particularly important for the website field. I've been migrating from lastpass and resetting or throwing away about 800 passwords (we had been using lastpass for a long time and it really did need a cleanup!). I used the open and fill many, many times. One of those times, after about four or five hundred different sites, I noticed that the website I opened using "open and fill" accepted my e-mail address and promptly signed me up for their newsletters instead of logging me in. If I had been using just "open" this wouldn't have happened! Not sure how many extra newsletters I accidentally signed up for this way.
Perhaps having 1Password avoid that problem of accidentally signing up for newsletters would also be key, but knowing how difficult it is to predict how a website will behave, you could at least allow users to change the default behavior so that users can avoid the problem when using the app.
Thanks
drhalter

Hello @drhalter841! 👋
I'm sorry that you ran into trouble when changing passwords for existing accounts. 1Password in the browser can help you find the "change password" page for a website:
- Open your browser.
- Click on the 1Password icon in the browser's toolbar.
- Search for the website whose password you'd like to change.
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner and then click Change Password.
- Use 1Password to fill your existing password and new password on the page: Use the password generator to change and strengthen your passwords
One of those times, after about four or five hundred different sites, I noticed that the website I opened using "open and fill" accepted my e-mail address and promptly signed me up for their newsletters instead of logging me in.
I don't think that I've ever seen this happen before. Are you able to provide the website address of the item in question? Don't share your username or password, just the website address saved in 1Password (provided that the address doesn't contain anything sensitive).
