Do I still need to keep my SSH key in ~/.ssh/ after importing into 1Password?

I've followed the docs and imported my existing SSH key into 1Password and have enabled the 1Password SSH agent. Do I still need to keep my SSH key on my desktop in ~/.ssh/ or should this now be removed since 1Password will be authenticating with it each time?

Having got the authentication working I've tested moving my SSH keypair out of ~/.ssh/ and it seems to work fine so I'll go ahead and delete them after backing up.

Let me know if there is anything else to be aware of.

  • Hi @iany.

Indeed you no longer need to keep your keys in the ~/.ssh/ directory after importing them into 1Password.
