Watchtower Weak Password

I've noticed a few discussions about watchtower saying a generated password is weak, despite appearing to be a very secure password. I am having the same issue and I think i've found out how to recreate the issue which is something that the admins were having trouble with while trying to help the other affected users. I go to watchtower and select weak logins, next I generate a password and save that login. The new password registers as strong and removes it from the weak password screen. However if I open that login again by selecting edit and I remove that password and re paste it unchanged back into the password field and hit save again, then it registers as a weak password. I'd greatly appreciate if someone could look into this. Thanks!

Just an idea: Maybe in your test case it is a reused password if watchtower looks in the password history as well. So in general a password is weaker, when you used it in the past and now use it again.

  • Hi @Andreas2,

Thanks for your messages. Depending on the length and parameters you are using for the generated password, copying and pasting the same password and saving the item can result in a reduced password strength.

Was this password originally generated using 1Password? Pasting what otherwise appears to be a strong password may not appear as such unless it was newly generated. In these situations, I'd recommend saving a new password using the in-app generator. This should always create Strong or Fantastic and prevent it from appearing in Watchtower, depending on the parameters used:

I hope this information helps, but if you need further assistance, just let us know!
