Auto-lock on browser close

I have my auto-lock set to 1 minute of system idle time but when I close my browser, I would like for 1Password to immediately lock.

Is it possible to have this when I have enabled the option of integrating the browser extension with the desktop app?

1Password Version: 1Password for Windows 8.10.8 (81008047)
Extension Version: 2.12.0

  • Hi there @Nusaram

If you have "Integrate with 1Password app" turned on in the settings for the 1Password extension, it'll lock and unlock whenever the main 1Password app does.

If you turn that setting off, 1Password in the browser will lock when you quit your browser, and you'll have to unlock it manually when you open it again.

You can use a keyboard shortcut to manually lock 1Password if you'd like. By default, Ctrl + Shift + L will lock 1Password from anywhere on your computer – you don't have to have 1Password open for that to work. :)

    Thank you, @GreyM1P.

But I Just noticed that with the integration disabled, I lose the integration with Windows Hello! That's very unfortunate, because I love the Windows Hello integration and am not giving it up.

Could the Windows Hello integration not also be added to the browser extension?

    Thanks very much!

  • Hi @Nusaram,

Thanks for your reply. The Windows Hello prompt that appears after clicking the 1Password icon in your browser, is coming from a call to unlock the 1Password desktop app, not from the extension itself.

In this case, continuing to use app integration and manually locking (Ctrl + Shift + L) the 1Password for Windows app, would be the best option here.

    Hi @ag_mike_d,

Yes, I had figured the call was via the desktop app but my question was whether this was by design or by technical limitations? Because if it is the former, then a feature request should be submitted to the Development team to include this functionality in the browser extension.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks for clarifying, @Nusaram.

After confirming with the team, this is by design, because of technical limitations with most browsers. Browser platforms, with the exception of Safari, do not give us the capability to implement Windows Hello unlock in 1Password in the browser itself.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. We'll be here for you!
