Remove 1Password system tray icon in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10
I have been a 1Password user since shortly after their public release many many moons ago. However, with the newer releases, in Windows 8.1 and now Windows 10, I'm presented with a system tray icon I cannot remove. When it's removed from System Tray via right click>Exit, it will appear again either immediately or in a few minutes. I've tried to use Windows taskbar settings to do so, it shows Off there, I've tried to drag it out of Extended System Tray and onto the Desktop, no go there either. It doesn't start up with Windows and there is no service I can find, to turn off, to keep this "re-population" from happening.
I also use the 1Password browser extension. No issues there, but did see a couple of options to turn off notifications. Did so there, but it didn't change the behavior of the Windows System Tray icon.
Is there any way to remove the current 1Password system tray icon?
As I indicated, I enjoy the product and have been a loyal user for about 15 years. I'm just someone who works on their computer and doesn't want to look at a huge collection of System Tray icons all day.
Greatly appreciate any guidance.

Hello @ISP,
Thanks for your message about disabling the the 1Password icon in the Windows system tray.
From your 1Password Version details, I can see you are using a legacy version of 1Password. There is no option to disable the icon in version 7. However, this can be done in version 8 of 1Password through Settings > General and unchecking Keep 1Password in the notification area:
With the launch of 1Password 8, 1Password 7 is no longer supported and will only receive important security updates. Although you can continue to use 1Password 7, it’s best to use the latest version of 1Password that includes all the latest features and security updates, so you should upgrade to 1Password 8 when you have the chance.
Please note that we also do not support older versions of Windows. 1Password 8 for Windows Requires Windows 11 64-bit or Windows 10 64-bit:
Is there anything that I can do to assist you with upgrading to 1Password 8? If you have any specific questions or concerns, please share them with me. I’d be happy to help you out with them!
