Duplicates caused by 1Password in the browser

I have been using 1Password for a while, and many, many duplicates have crept into my database. Unclear why 1PW sometimes offers to "update" a PW and other times just forces a duplicate. I know 1PW doesn't have a "delete duplicates" function (why not, considering its tendency to create dups?). I see that I can export just the passwords to CSV and work the file over offline. I see there's also a version of export that creates a 1pux file that presumably is complete. Is there any way to delete all passwords, leave the other stuff intact, then import the corrected PW file?
