Feature Request - Use custom PIN for unlock
I’m hoping to make a compelling case here for the ability to use an unlock PIN on both the desktop and mobile versions of the app, and importantly one which differs from the device login credentials.
The use cases I’m interested in particular are the following:
- On a desktop device, even though my device utilizes biometrics, my laptop is in clamshell mode while using a monitor, and therefor I don’t have easy access to this feature. I thus have to type my full password every time I wish to unlock. Alternatively, many people don’t want to interface with biometrics anyway.
- On mobile, my main device password is highly sensitive. There has been a lot of talk recently about just how much access malicious users can obtain using just these 6 digits on an iPhone. If I want to use a PIN on mobile, I don’t want it to be the same one that is already so vulnerable!
Since the option to use a PIN is already available, this feature would make the vaults strictly more secure. And moreover, even if it’s preferred that users employ biometrics or a strong password, for those that wish not to use the former, this is forcing us to weaken our main password.
Would appreciate the thoughts of 1Password support, or any information if people have other ideas here.
Thank you!

Hi @styrenecloset,
Thank you for taking the time to write to us here at 1Password. I understand that you would like the option to unlock 1Password using a PIN code that is unrelated to your device PIN. I have gone ahead and filed a feature request on your behalf so that our Product team can consider this for future updates.
Thanks again for the great suggestion and please let me know if you have any further questions. 🙂
