Only 1Password 3 for iOS is affected by Dropbox sync API deprecation; no other versions are affected
Goodmorning,
When 1Password4 was released, I understood that this new version was incompatible with 1Password3. Having to upgrade for all the versions I purchased (Mac. IoS, Android, and Windows), I felt really miffed and stayed at version 3.
To find myself trapped now.
If the above mentioned limitation still applies, I find the IOS discount of 50% a bit of a joke. It saves me 7 dollar and forces me to spend another 100.
I am not suspicious enough to believe in devious plan, and I understand that money has to be made. But there is also the aspect of customer care and loyalty. I call on Agilebits to come with a more reasonable solution to avoid rendering my purchases and password infrastructure useless.
Regards,
Frank de Bruin

Hi @fdebruin,
I'm not sure what you would upgrade to on Windows and Mac. There are no upgrades even available on Windows and Mac at this time. The only version of 1Password affected by Dropbox's recent decision to deprecate their very old sync API is 1Password 3 for iOS which was discontinued over half a year ago.
No other version of 1Password is affected and all current versions of 1Password across all platforms sync seamlessly via Dropbox.
Please read all the details in our blog post:
If you use 1Password 3 for iOS and Dropbox sync, take action by September 1

I find this whole story that Dropbox has updated its API and we can't update version 3 story flimsy. Just be honest guys and I'll accept it: you've invested design and development time in version 4 and you (rightly) want a return. You (correctly) assume that you'll not get much as you've a big use base who are pleased with version 3 who wonder why they would bother forking out for version 4.
The answer? Compell us to migrate by letting version 3 become obscure in the eyes of your primary partner's API. I'm in the IT business, I fully understand and support your need to move on, remain viable and competitive, but just be honest.

1Password 3 was removed from sale on App Store over half a year ago. Dropbox just decided to make this change. 1Password 4 for iOS was released back in December 2012 wholly unrelated to this. It was a year in development from the ground up. Not a single bit or pixel from 1Password 3 for iOS remained.
If you’re happy with v3, you’re not required to purchase. It is up to us to demonstrate the value. You might start here:
https://agilebits.com/onepassword/ios/features
New features include: iCloud, rich icons, customization, password generator everywhere, swipe actions, favorites, tabbed browsing, global search, dedicated web mode, attachment viewing, faster Dropbox, iTunes file sharing, auto-clear clipboard, and more.
You may also be interested to read the blog posts for each major update (4.0, 4.1, and 4.2) since December:

We have continued to add many brand new features since then, and we also improved existing ones.
But the choice is yours. You can always download 1Password 3 for iOS from your Purchases list in the App Store and keep using it indefinitely:
Please let me know if you have any other questions for concerns. I would be happy to provide further assistance. :)
Cheers!

Hello,
If i will upgrade my 1password 3 to 4, what will happen with database ? It will be moved to new version?0 -
That's correct, @dgon14. If you've been syncing via Dropbox you can sync the data into 1Password 4 for iOS via Dropbox. Or if you haven't been syncing via Dropbox, you can use the option to import the data directly. Either way you should be all set, but please let us know if you have any trouble. We're always here to help! :)
