Proposed preference: "allow using keys while 1password is locked"

Disclaimer: I've discussed this with support and they've suggested I post this here to see how other SSH key agent users think about this.

I use the Tower git client. After migrating from the default macOS key agent to 1pw's key agent I noticed that Tower has an auto fetch feature. This turned out to be annoying because when 1pw locks, the SSH keys are protected.

I went into the 1pw preferences and found the setting "Remember key approval". I set it to 12 hours. This didn't solve my issue: when 1pw is locked the keys are protected, and I had Tower set to 5 minutes. So after locking and unlocking macOS (1pw auto locks on machine lock) the timing of Tower needing the key to fetch was very annoying. I could be in the middle of writing code and the 1pw unlock dialog (not the SSH approval dialog) would popup out of nowhere stealing focus.

After explaining this to support (I was assuming this to be unexpected behavior), I understood that this is the way it is supposed to work.

The feature request I made to 1password support "allow using keys while 1password is locked" was received and will be forwarded to the product team.

If you agree with mee that this would be a good option to have, leave a +1
