my 1password8 on Mac no longer reveals my password when I am trying to sign in to 1password. I want it to. What should I do?

  • Hello @lynnhuntsinger! 👋

I'm sorry that you're having trouble revealing your password. Do you see the reveal button to the right of the password field? It should look like this:

If you don't see the reveal button then can you post a screenshot of what you do see? Please make sure that nothing sensitive is visible in the screenshot.

The eyeball is there, and when I click on it it disappears, but nothing is revealed. And I really like that feature. It works on all my passwords, but not signing in to 1Password. I was wondering if that was a security thing. You make a complicated password that you can remember, but then you make mistakes because it is so complicated. So in this case my temptation is to make a simple password, and that defeats the purpose.

Thanks so much for your response, it's nice. Lynn

Thanks for the reply. The reveal function should be working and I'd like to investigate further to see what might be going wrong on your Mac.

Can you type something random into the password field (that is not your password) and then click the reveal icon. Then, to help me better understand the situation, I'd like to ask you to take a screenshot of what you're seeing and attach it to your reply:

Again: please make sure that what you type into the password field is random gibberish and not your password. Never post your password to the forum.

I made you a movie but it does not go here. These two show what it looked like before I put anything in, and what it looked like after I put a random set of letters in and clicked the eyeball. The eyeball just disappears.

  • Hello @lynnhuntsinger, thank you for taking the time and sharing a screenshot.

I can confirm that there is a known issue when trying to reveal the password in 1Password for Safari. I apologize for any interruption in your workflow caused by this. I've gone ahead and added you as an affected user to our internal reporting.

In the meantime, if you also use the 1Password desktop app, 1Password for Safari should be sharing the lock state with the 1Password desktop app. I'd suggest unlocking 1Password there first so you can reveal your password and then 1Password in Safari should be unlocked too.

    I hope that helps!
