  • Hello @swoffenden! 👋

I'm sorry that you're running into an issue with password history. Can you tell me if you remember changing your password for the item in question? If you did then do you remember when you changed it and how? For example, did you edit the password using the desktop app? Or 1Password in the browser?

If you do remember changing your password for the item in question, can you log in to your 1Password account on 1Password.com (in the browser, not the app) and see if you can see previous versions of that item: View and restore previous versions of items

    Hi Dave,

Yes, I changed the password. I used 1Password in the browser.

Okay, that was the problem. I tried using the app to see the previous passwords but it only appears in the 1password.com Item History.

Thank you very much for all your help!

    Hi Dave,

It's a bit confusing. In the app, clicking "View password history" reveals one password with today's date. I assumed that this password was the one I just changed to (i.e., the new password, as I expected to see a date prior to today next to the password as I changed them before today). Instead, it appears that this is my old password which I just changed from.

Also, there was only the one password shown in the app Password History which was strange because I have changed it multiple times.

    Thanks again,

    Scott

All set. Apparently, it's best to use the 1password.com when updating passwords.

It would be nice to be able to see a list of previous passwords with dates next to each. I look at the Item History and the same password is there multiple times. Something else must've changed... Idk.

    Thank you!

  • Hello @swoffenden,

Thanks for getting back to us. I'm sorry to hear of the continued troubles with a change of password within the 1Password apps.

The experience you are describing does not sound quite right. First, it is expected that if you change the password once and save it, the password field in the item details view will contain the current password. Then once you select password history, the passwords contained there will display only the previous password(s):

Would you mind creating a new test item in the 1Password for Windows app. Then change the password a few times, saving the item each time in between password changes. Do you see the password history as expected after each of those changes?

I'm looking forward to your reply.

    Hi Mike,

Yes, I was able to do this with the app and it works properly.

I believe the issue comes into play when I am using 1Password in the browser, updating a website's password and it updates the password for me in 1Password. I was expecting to see this password history in the app. (I think that's what was / is happening)

I will figure out the exact steps to replicate the "issue" (which probably isn't an issue but more of me not understanding how it works.)

    Thank you!

    Hi Mike,

Thanks again for your response and time. I might have been confused by the date being shown as today's date with my old password. It appears to be working fine.

I am very sorry. I am probably just getting old and confused :-( lol

Thanks again for your time and effort. I really appreciate you and Dave reaching out to me!!!

    Sincerely,

    Scott
