Moving from (Mac) SplashID 8.3.6 to 1Password

Hi! I've been using SplashID for over ten years. Does anyone have a good means of moving data into 1Password, even through the CSV import? It looks like the vID import is no longer an option.

The current version of SplashID 8.3.6 on Mac and 8.4.0 on iOS is buggy, I've tried moving to the new 9.1.2, and it does not sync with my iOS correctly

1Password Version: 7.9.11

I wish I had an answer for you (and if so, I would update my converter suite to accomodate SplashID). Although it does have a splashid converter, it worked with 8.0.4.899 or earlier, due to SplashID making those exports encrypted.

And SplashID made it impossible to export without paying them for a subscription. A very shady practice, at best. So I've not been able to evaluate their export data for some time now.

What does the CSV look like? Does it seem sufficiently comprehensive?

    Hi thanks for the reply!!!
All of the important data from the SplashID database is in the CSV. This forum does not let me upload a CSV, but I can email it to you or something. I tried to attach a screenshot of a sample (I edited out any real passwords or important data). Note that I added the column labels, the actual export just has the data (no column labels). The SplashID CSV export includes 13 columns:
    Record "type"
    User data fields 1-9
    Date modified
Notes (which can be long and include multiple line breaks
    Record "category"

It looks like the following data from the SplashID database is not exported:

    • Custom field names (each record can rename field1 through field9 to something like, "Username". These are also passed down from the record "type". Not strictly necessary.
Attachments (which I don't think I've ever used, but might be a big deal to somebody)
Whether a record has a "star" as a favorite, or if fields are masked from view. Neither is critical to the data.

    You're welcome.

The primary issue with their CSV export is that columns have no meaning, so there's no automated way to convert it.

Here are two approaches you might use:

    • Use the 1Password.com CSV importer (note that it is limited - it can only import to a few 1Password categories, and you must select each row's category at the time of import)
    • Use the csv converter in the converter suite (this will require the steps below).
    1. Edit the CSV using a spreadsheet program, and sort the rows by the TYPE column, and save the file.
    2. Duplicate the CSV, once for each TYPE. Name each duplicate file name to indicate the TYPE.
    3. Edit each of those CSVs, and remove all rows that don't match the TYPE of data. You can eliminate any entirely empty columns. This provides one CSV file per TYPE, containing only that TYPE's data. This standardizes the meaning of the columns.
    4. Review the column label requirements for the csv converter in the suite's README file, and add the required column labels.
    5. Export the CSV file as UTF-8 CSV.
    6. Convert each CSV file using the csv converter - this will create a 1Password 1PUX file which can be imported into 1Password's desktop app.

The csv converter supports more categories than the 1Password.com importer. It can also be customized as needed, and additional categories can be added. This should be able to handle the majority of your records, and at some point, any remaining records might be best imported via copy and paste.

Let me know if you need more help here.
