FIDO certification plans

I've recently encountered an issue when storing a passkey for a service that required at least L1 FIDO certification for the used security key.

Microsoft's Windows Hello itself meets this requirement (https://fidoalliance.org/microsoft-achieves-fido2-certification-for-windows-hello/), and it seems the requirements for L1 (the lowest level) are achievable for any software solution (https://fidoalliance.org/certification/authenticator-certification-levels/), but 1Password doesn't have such certification so far.

I'd like to know if there are any plans in this regard so that the passkey functionality can be used with services that require the certification. Posting this in the general section since I think this applies to all platforms, although I'm mostly interested in this working on Windows.

  • Hi @MaKolarik, thanks for reaching out!

Certification for passkey providers is a work in progress within FIDO and there is no timeline on when it will be available. With that said, we are actively engaged within FIDO and are keeping an eye on this area.

Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with!
