"Use as default for suggestions" isn't working for the password generator
So I posted this on reddit but figured I would post here as well as there doesn't seem to be a feature request anywhere that I could find.
I would love for the password generator to adhere to my preferred default format when creating a new entry as it would save a few extra steps when signing into new websites.
1Password Version: 8.10.22
Extension Version: 2.18.1
OS Version: Win10 Ent
Browser: Chrome

Hello @Fiala06! 👋
Thanks for the suggestion! By default, 1Password will use its smart password generator since it's designed to be compatible with the various password requirements that different websites use. If we defaulted to a static password recipe then you'd be constantly seeing websites reject suggested passwords because those passwords were missing a capital or a specific symbol or an exact number of characters.
That being said, you can already choose to have 1Password in the browser suggest memorable passwords by following these steps:
- Open your browser.
- Click on the 1Password icon in the browser's toolbar.
- Click on the menu button in the pop-up (it looks like three horizontal lines) and the click Password Generator.
- For "Type" choose "Memorable Password" and change any other settings that you'd like to adjust.
- Turn on "Use as default for suggestions".
The next time that 1Password offers a password suggestion it will be using that recipe. Here's a quick test that I did using the setting in your screenshot:
I see that the "Use as default for suggestions" option is already on in your screenshot. If you close and then reopen your browser do you see the right kind of passwords being suggested for websites?

Yeah, I did that awhile ago and it's never worked like that. Just for the heck it of it I've tried Reddit and a few printer interfaces on multiple machines and browsers, including incognito. Same result.

Thanks for the reply. Could you try turning "Use as default for suggestions" off and then back on again to see if that makes a difference?
If that doesn't work then, and this is just a wild guess, can you see if you might have two different 1Password extensions installed in Chrome? Perhaps a beta and production version? You might be changing the settings for one extension while the other one actually makes the password suggestion on the page. You can check by typing the following into your address bar:
chrome://extensions/
Let me know if either suggestion helps, if it doesn't then I can help further. 🙂
