Do I need to create a new account for the passkey unlock beta?

Yesterday, Steve Won sent out an email that said, in part, "Following our private beta, we're thrilled to announce our public beta which allows anyone to create and unlock a 1Password Individual account with a passkey! Read our blog post for all the details and instructions on how to get started."

We subscribe to 1Password for families. Is this beta available to allow anyone to create and unlock a 1Password for Families account with a passkey?

We have 1Password for Android 8.10.22 (81022047), on PRODUCTION channel.

If you read the blogpost @Curt2Go it says:

The ability to unlock 1Password with a passkey is currently for new accounts only. Next year, we’ll make this feature available to anyone with an existing 1Password account.

I signed up with a new email, and I got a personal account.

  • Hello @Curt2Go! 👋

Thank you for being interested in the unlock with passkeys public beta! @9elsen is correct (thanks for the assist!), you cannot add a passkey to an existing 1Password account just yet.

For the unlock with passkeys beta, you’ll need to create a new individual account: Unlock 1Password with a passkey (beta)

We can’t wait to share more news in the future regarding passkeys for other account types and for existing accounts. Please keep any eye on our blog for future announcements! 😊
