Disable Drag and Drop Feature

Hi,

I saw two prior discussion on the topic:
and
[https://1password.community/discussion/138839/is-it-possible-to-disable-drag-drop-fields]

My issue is the same, whether it is with passwords, or longer note fields with sensitive notes.
I don't think this is a bug. I think it's just a feature that causes me problems, and which I'd prefer to disable.

For example, if I'm clicking around on passwords or notes in 1Password, and I accidently click and slide outside of the window, it copies everything, and then when I let my mouse button up, it starts typing out all of the text (password or note) in whatever window has the focus.

When I do this, if I don't happen to have a notepad windows or somewhere safe to drop it, there is no way to get rid of it, and it has to be pasted in the next thing with focus. I don't see any way to cancel this. Once you lift your finger off the mouse button, it's pasted whether you like it or not.

  • Hello @Karlito,

Thanks for your message and providing these threads describing the same behaviour you are seeing.

I've added your details to issue we have filed with the development team with regards to dragging a password field.

I've been unable to reproduce similar behaviour with a notes field. Could you provide some more details or steps to reproduce this behaviour? Please include the status of the 1Password for Windows app when this happens. For example are currently editing an item with a note or are you accidently clicking somewhere specific in the item that starts this drag and drop action?

I'm looking forward to your reply.

Consider you have something like shown in my screenshot.

If I have this 1Password window in the foreground, and I do a clean click on the "text", it says "copied text" at the bottom, and copies it to my clipboard. I can then switch to whatever app I want and ctrl-v to paste it in. That's fine.

However, if I don't do a nice clean click (for example, if I press the mouse button down, but then move the mouse more than a few pixels before lifting my finger), the 1Password app goes to the background, and I'm left holding my mouse button down, knowing that as soon as I release it, this text is going to be dropped in whatever window happens to be there.

Further, it's not just pasting it, it's simulating typing it in, including carriage returns etc.

So, for example, if I accidently do this, and there happens to be a chat window in the background, it could start typing it all in and sending it.

Or, if you have a form or input box in the background, it will start trying to enter the text into the form and hitting enter.

  • Hello again @Karlito,

Thanks for the detailed explanation and screenshot.

I understood that you referring to the main field of a secure note where I was unable to reproduce behaviour. However, a text field in a secure note or any other item does work like any other field where that the drag and drop option could be used. As this is the case, the filed issue where I added your details, would remain the same.

As a step further, I've filed a feature request with the product team for consideration of an option or setting to be able to disable drag and drop altogether.

    We appreciate your feedback!

    Sounds good, thank you.

Yes, to confirm, I'd like that feature to disable the drag and drop globally, for notes, passwords, and everything else.

Appreciate your and the product team's consideration.

  • You're most welcome, @Karlito! Happy to help!
