Software Licence Rich Icon Discovery

I've tried to find an answer about this but haven't seen anything so far.

The Rich Icon service for Software Licences is very nice, but it is sometimes difficult to find the correct name to retrieve the Rich Icon. Some working examples are "Microsoft Office" and "Microsoft Office 2010" pulling the unique and correct icons.

I've tried many variations on "Visual Studio" to pull an icon without success. This is a piece of software that I would have expected to have been in your top 1000 cache misses (I saw mention of this in a different discussion) so it must be in the cache somewhere.

Is there a list we can query to find the correct naming for specific software/versions?

    Hello @Kitforbes,

I'm sorry for the troubles you are experiencing finding icons for software licenses.

Specifically, I was on only able to locate an icon for Visual Studio Code when searching:
    image

With regard to the icon for Visual Studio, I have submitted an icon request with the team.

We manually add icons to the server, so it will take a bit of time before the new one appears in 1Password. In the meantime, you can add a custom icon for any item by following these steps:
    1. Select the item in 1Password for Windows.
    2. Click Edit, then click ▼ on the current icon and select “Choose new icon”.
    3. Select the new icon and save the item.

Is there a list we can query to find the correct naming for specific software/versions?

There is not a list you can query within 1Password, but please let us know if you are having troubles locating certain icons and we can pass it along to the team, on your behalf.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Hi Mike, thanks for the response.

Making the available rich icons more discoverable - either through 1Password, an external website, a Git repository, etc - would be very useful.

From my perspective I'd only want to go to the effort of creating a custom icon if I knew I had to. As it stands at the moment, I can guess at variations of a name, and then assume the icon isn't available when it may actually be.

There's also the scenario that if I did apply a custom icon for an item, I'd want 1Password to prompt me (through the typical banner at the top of an item) when/if a rich icon becomes available. I doubt custom icons would take up much storage space in the vault, but it would be better to not have them if a rich icon is available.

  • Hello again @Kitforbes,

You're most welcome. I can certainly understand the difficulties when search for a specific icon and where making them more discoverable would be helpful.

A prompt, similar to a Watchtower banner when rich icon becomes available, when a custom icon is currently used, may be possible. While I can't make promises about either feature, I'm happy to pass your suggestions along to the team for consideration.

Please let us know if you have any other suggestions.
