Feature request: Remove headers from item lists in the desktop app
Hi - just wondering if there is any progress with the dev team on removing the completely redundant alphabetic list header sin the favourites view on desktop (this affects both Mac & Windows, so assume Linux is the same?) - in my case it actually increases Favourites area occupied by about 30% approx. as the headers and spacing take up more vertical space than the entries in the list! It doesn't do this in the mobile apps (iOS for example) so why in desktop?
This was previously raised by @paulrbarnard 18 months ago (Is there a way to remove the totally pointless index headings in the list view?) that in fact the list headers are actually redundant in all cases, and not even needed in the main lists of all items.
One would hope there is some thought being given to streamlining the GUI and removing redundant features that add nothing to the experience (or at least providing a switch for users to enable/disable as they prefer), and to trying to maintain as close a consistency as possible between desktop and mobile apps?
Might seem a minor thing but its actually infuriating as a user, much like the ongoing date format saga.

Hello @Mycenius! 👋
Thank you for the feedback! The section headings are meant to increase the readability and scrollability of a list of items and there isn't currently an option to turn them off. You'll see the same headings when viewing lists on the Items screen in 1Password for iOS.
You can reduce the amount of space that lists, and other elements, take up in the desktop app by using 1Password's Compact density view:
- Open and unlock the 1Password app.
- Click your account or collection at the top of the sidebar and click Settings.
- Click Appearance.
- Choose "Compact".
That being said, I've passed along your request for an option to hide the headings to our product team. They'll look into the request when planning changes and updates to 1Password in the future.
Please let me know if there's anything else that I can help you with. 🙂
-Dave
