How to deduplicate (1Password did not generate a new vault called 'Imported').
Hi there !
By importing a *.pux backup, I now have all my records duplicated. I naively thought that 1Password during the import would add a new vault called "Imported" for example. What to do now? Fortunately, I made an export just before importing. But how to properly deduplicate or delete everything to re-import the last backup?
Thank you for your help.

Strange, in my tests 1Password always created new vaults with "imported" as name addition. However, you can go into the Watchtower category of the desktop app on your PC. It will offer you to handle any duplicates. As far as I know, it's only in the desktop app watchtower, not in the website watchtower.

Thank you for your reply. Here is what I have done:
MASS DEDUPLICATION AFTER IMPORT
Since it's not possible to deduplicate in bulk (or there's a risk of accidentally deleting records), the only solution is to delete everything and then re-import the latest backup.
In the desktop application for Windows, select all entries (ctrl + A).
Right-click and select "Delete all items".
This should be done for each vault.
Then, all that's left is to import the latest backup.0 -
@Tertius3 Thank you for jumping in, your assistance here is much appreciated.
@JIM0033 , I understand that you've encountered a situation where you've ended up with duplicate items in 1Password. For removing duplicates, I recommend using the duplicate clean up tool available via Watchtower: Use Watchtower to find duplicate items. Though please note that this tool is very conservative and will only remove exact duplicates within the same vault. If Watchtower does not find all of the duplicate items, this means that there are slight differences and the duplicate items that you’re seeing are not exact duplicates. In which case you'll need to remove them manually. I’m happy that it sounds like you’ve found a path forward with the steps that you posted.
I'd also like to circle back to the topic of exporting items. In general, I don't recommend using the "Export" function as a backup since this means your data leaves 1Password's secure and encrypted environment. With a 1Password membership, your data is securely and automatically backed up using a 1Password account, and exporting and re-importing can indeed result in duplicates. I suggest only exporting your items if you wish to move your data to another password manager.
Let me know if you have any questions and I'd be happy to assist further.

@ TimG1P I went to see the link (Use Watchtower to find duplicate items) that you recommended earlier. Interesting, thank you.
I am aware that the export function, even in *.pux format, removes the password protection and poses a risk to users.
Thank you for addressing all these points.0
