When 1Password can totally support thorium browser?

Currently, I used thorium for a few months. That is a great branch of Chrome. I also noticed that some users they have the same issue as mine. We cannot use thorium connecting with the APP on Windows.

I did search a lot but not see any resolution. Not sure this browser or topic can be resolved here. Thanks. I tried production. beta and nightly. No one can solve it.

1Password Version: 8.10.30
Extension Version: 2.22.1
OS Version: Windows 10
Browser: thorium

  • Hello @kannyfu! 👋

Thank you for the request! You should already be able to use 1Password in the browser with Thorium (by installing 1Password from the Chrome Web Store) but integration between the desktop app and the browser extension won't work since Thorium isn't a supported browser.

The team has recently introduced a custom trusted browsers feature for macOS that allows folks to add unsupported browsers to 1Password for Mac so that integration works, you can read more here: Extending support for trusted web browsers — 1Password Community

Hopefully the feature will come to Windows in the future as well, I've let the team know that you'd find it useful. 🙂

Thanks Dave. I think I found the solution for me. I open the chrome setting to enable
    chrome://flags/#launch-windows-native-hosts-directly

    Close browser, close APP
    Open APP and unlock it
    Open browser. Wow, it works

    Thanks

1Password's implementation of browser verification for Chrome (and Chromium-derived browsers like Thorium) has support for both Chrome's modern and legacy native messaging hosts. An issue in this logic resulted in 1Password erroneously allowing browsers that didn't meet our pre-determined verification standards which include code signing publisher checks when a certain Chromium flag was set.

This has now been addressed with the latest version of 1Password for Windows by increasing the strictness of a browser validation path in our desktop app integration helper. This means that, as a security and verification measure, only supported browsers will be able to connect to the 1Password for Windows desktop app going forward. You may still be able to use 1Password in unsupported browsers like Thorium, but the browser won't be able to communicate with the desktop app.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, our team has released a custom trusted browsers feature for 1Password on the Mac and hopes to expand this feature to other platforms like Windows in the future. Custom trusted browsers will allow you to use any browser with 1Password, even those that aren't explicitly supported. I've let the team know that you're eager to see this functionality be released in 1Password for Windows as well.
