Windows' prompt appearing when using a passkey, not 1Password's
I'm using Windows 11. I want to exclusively use ONLY 1Password to manage ALL my passwords on both iOS and Windows. But Windows keeps nudging me to use it's password management. My question: how do I set Windows to do what I want? Where is the setting to allow me to tell Windows to always use 1Password and to stop bothering me with marketing prompts to use their solution?

Hello @MilennialZero! 👋
I'm sorry that you're seeing conflicting prompts from Windows when trying to use 1Password. Try the steps in our guide to turn off the built-in password manager:
If that still doesn't work then can you post a screenshot of the prompt that you're seeing? Can you also clarify where you're seeing the prompt? In your browser? Or inside of another app?
I look forward to hearing from you. 🙂

Thanks Dave - that helped. Microsoft and Google are intentionally making it confusing so you end up using their “password management” feature without knowing that it’s not 1Password.

I have this same issue, it's infuriating.
On certain sites, no matter what I do Windows Hello barges in and prevents me from using 1Password to sign my passkey.
It happens across browsers (e.g. on edge, chrome, brave) but only on certain sites.
I've tried turning off the default password manager in the browsers to no avail.
I know its partly working because passkeys work on some sites.
Also the passkeys on the sites that don't work are valid, I've tested them on none windows devices.
Any thoughts?
I'm convinced its down to the sites actual implementation of the passkey function call.
These work well: Github, Google
This doesn't work: Coinbase
Versions for me:
1Password Version: 1Password for Windows 8.10.32 81032044, on BETA channel
Extension Version: 2.23.3
OS Version: Windows 11
Browser: Brave / Edge / Chrome0 -
For the benefit of others, I think I have figured my particular problem out.
I believe the issue was that I had changed email on some of the sites and the passkey is encoded to a specific email.
So I needed to remove the old one and generate another.
Interesting that none of the update email processes currently explain this, but hopefully it helps someone else 😅
