For site: https://www.epicgames.com/account/

I had to enroll 1password as the authenticator app from iOS to scan via my phone camera. Using the chrome plugin or the windows app resulted in invalid OTP codes.

  1. Deleted the OTP code from a windows scan of the QR code
  2. Regenerated the QR code on epicgames.com
  3. Scan QR with iOS 1password app
  4. iOS generates valid OTP
  5. try to use Windows app OTP, it s a completely different number on a different count down. OTP is invalid.
  6. Try iOS again, OTP still valid.

Checked modified timestamps on both iOS and Windows 1password apps for the same login entry, they match - so its not an issue of syncing data across devices.

1Password Version: 8.10.30
Extension Version: 2.23.1
OS Version: Win 11 22H2
Browser: Chromium 124.0.6367.118

Resolved: Windows 11 OS Time Sync decided to stop working. Enough to break the Windows OTP generation. Would be great if 1password would flag if OS and server time is too different.

  • Hello @con40! 👋

I'm happy that you were able to resolve the situation. One-time passwords that use the TOTP standard are generated locally on your device using a combination of the saved secret and the current time. For this process to work, your device's date and time need to be set correctly: How to set your time and time zone - Microsoft Support

Let me know if there's anything else that I can help you with. 🙂
