I am trying to log into my account thru the web and when I get to the 2fa choices I try using my phone to get a passkey and scan the QR code but keep getting an unable to read QR code, so in effect I am not able to have access to my account.

  • Hello @jprisch! 👋

I'm sorry that you're having trouble accessing an account. Just to clarify, are you trying to sign into your 1Password account? If you are then can you tell me the following:

    1. Are you using a beta 1Password account that unlocks using a passkey? Or are you using a 1Password account that unlocks using an account password and Secret Key that you enabled two-factor authentication for?
    2. Did you save a security key (which is usually a hardware key like a YubiKey) as a passkey in 1Password or some other password manager?
    3. Can you post a screenshot of the message that you see? Make sure that nothing sensitive is visible in the screenshot.

If you're trying to access a different account, not your 1Password account then let me know.

I was eventually able to get in to my account. I am using version 8 on a mac and I was able to enter my password and secret key which brought up a verification window, either to use a physical key or authenticate through scanning a QR code on a different device. It was when I tried to scan the QR code to complete the final step, I would get the prompt that the QR code was not readable. All good as I was able to get in and setup a physical key

I'm happy that you were able to resolve the situation. If you're enabling two-factor authentication for your 1Password account then I recommend either using a TOTP authenticator app or a physical security key. You can find our guides here:

Let me know if you have any questions in the future.
