What does "Unlock more easily" do?

I just updated and was prompted with "Unlock more easily. Easily unlock Password with your device instead of entering a password. Choose how you'd like to unlock." Unlock using Touch ID is set to On with a continue button.

What does this option do? I enabled it but locking my Mac screen and then unlocking it with Touch ID I find that 1Password is still locked.

I also don't see in the preferences window to change this setting later.

1Password does not unlock with your Mac. You can unlock it as a secondary process. The prompt is to allow folks to easily enable biometric logins. Open 1Password for Mac. You should be prompted for biometrics. When prompted, are you able to access 1Password by supplying your fingerprint?

To access the 1Password preferences (settings), press the command and comma keys simultaneously while 1Password is frontmost on your screen.

I already had unlock by Touch ID enabled, so why was I prompted for this?

  • It might have been the original preference was not read correctly. If you have it (feature) on now you can ignore it. If you continue to have the message appear please email us using support+forum@1password.com. Be sure to use the email address tied to the account in question. That way the team can look into it more.
