No, there are no updates that I have available. The last I saw was the feature request I filed for you in this topic. https://1password.community/discussion/144030/estate-timing-mode#latest It looks like this is in the products teams review.
I think you were thinking more along the lines of email type access. I would just note that recovery keys are available in beta for both individual and family accounts. You might want to consider them. https://1password.community/discussion/145903/recovery-codes-for-families-beta#latest

_ I need reconsideration to password inheritance specifically to people who don’t even necessarily have an account yet._

You existing thread is still open. We have made the products team aware of your desires. Please see my note in the linked thread regarding recovery codes.

it would be good if a person could have a free account that could be used for the receiver of the inherited passwords.

All accounts come with a 14-day trial basis which should give the receiver time to determine what to do with the data. They could relocate the data from one account to the other. But yeah I understand the thought process. It's an interesting thought and one from personal experience I feel would be a good benefit. Maybe an account with a longer trial period? 🤔 We I went though the loss of a loved one 14-days was a blip but yet an eternity. Thanks for adding that. I'll add it to the feature request we filed on your behalf.
My recommendation is to always reach out to us if/when such an event occurs. We'll always do our very best to try and work with you in any way we can.
Nice chatting with you @pathfinder76
