Unable to save form information

I intentionally had not updated my one password for several years until I was forced to after upgrading to Mac OS 14. The new version is extremely frustrating to use. I do not understand how your software has gone backwards in functionality over time instead of improving. I can only assume that the old development team was replaced.

I have hundreds of logins that I have saved over the years that are pretty much unusable because the genius that redesigned your GUI decided to enlarge your font size and truncate the visible number of characters that are shown.

What happened to the feature that allowed me to save form information that I have entered into my current web page? In the old version I could simply select an option that saved my current form information. In the new version it asks me what type of information I am trying to save and then it takes me to the 1Password Gui and presents me with a blank login template!

Please hire a new GUI designer that knows what they are doing!

1Password Version: 8.10.33
Extension Version: 2.23.3
OS Version: macOS 14.4
Browser: FireFox

  • Hello @jgalton! 👋

Thank you for reaching out and I'm sorry that you're running into trouble with 1Password on your Mac. If you're using the desktop app then you can choose a more compact version of the user interface by following these steps:

    1. Open and unlock 1Password for Mac.
    2. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
    3. Click Settings.
    4. Click Appearance.
    5. Under Density, choose Compact.

Can you tell me a little more about the form that you're trying to save? If it's a login form then 1Password should offer to save your login right on the webpage:

Let me know if you don't see that or if you're trying to save a form that doesn't include login information (a username and password).

Thanks for your reply. I had already set the GUI to compact mode but it is still much smaller than the GUI that I have used for the past 15+ years. I cannot believe how much this font size change for you interface has made your software so unusable for me. Maybe for users that have only used the new interface this is not a problem. All I can tell you is that for me, I now struggle trying to find the logins and after years of recommending your software to family and friends I find myself looking for an alternative password manager.

Here is the website that I was trying to save the login information for: https://ptgui.com/account

With my old version of 1Password it would have prompted me to save this as a new login or it would give me an option to modify an existing login.

  • Thanks for sharing those details @jgalton!

I'm sorry that changing to a more compact look hasn't improved things. Do you have a screenshot of an example of what you're seeing with the truncated characters that you can share, so that I can get a better understanding of what you're encountering? Be sure to mask or remove any sensitive information.

With regards to the saving issue, can you confirm if you have the "Save logins automatically" option enabled in the 1Password extension's settings page? Here's how you can that:

    1. Right-click the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar, then select Settings.
    2. Click Autofill & save in the side panel.
    3. Check if "Save logins automatically" is toggled on.

Additionally, can you clarify if you're seeing the 1Password icon appear within the username or password field when it's in focus?

I look forward to hearing from you!
