On Firefox for Mac, have to click on the toolbar every time to unlock 1Password

Hi,

This is an old problem which, it seems, has still not been resolved. On Mac, with Firefox, you must activate "Keep 1Password in the menu bar" so that the 1Password button in the password field activates the touch-ID connection popup. If this "Keep 1Password in the menu bar" option is not activated, the 1Password application seems to close completely by closing the app window and breaks the connection between the extension and the main app. I have tried numerous times to uncheck the integration option in the extension settings, exit everything and reopen but without success.

It would be nice not to have to keep the 1Password logo in the menu bar permanently

The problem refers to an old discussion: https://1password.community/discussion/comment/673340

Yes, you are correct the menu bar app is required. Correct without it running closing 1Password will fully quit the application. The menu bar help is required for Touch ID to function in the browser.

thank you for the answer. But why offer this option if it breaks the link with the extension? Is this expected to change one day?

  • No, not to my knowledge. It has been this way as long as I have used a Mac. We have a feature request open to explore this type of ability. I'm not a developer and I can't comment on the logistics. However, I can add your voice to that request.
