Microsoft SSO login tab isn't closed automatically

I use my work Microsoft SSO with 1Password. I have to sign in with Microsoft every time I need to unlock my work 1Password account in the desktop app. I assume this is expected behaviour. However, whenever I log in with Microsoft SSO, a blank page is left open in my browser.

The usual flow is this:
1. I click on my work account in the browser to unlock it
2. The 1Password desktop app pops up and tells me I need to sign in with my Microsoft account
3. I click "Sign in with Microsoft"
4. It opens a new browser tab and I click to confirm that I'm trying to sign into 1Password
5. The tab redirects to a blank white page and the 1Password app pops back up
6. The 1Password app prompts me to use my Windows Hello fingerprint
7. The browser tab stays open

Is this tab expected to remain open? Is there a way to make it close automatically?

1Password Version: 8.10.35
Extension Version: 2.25.1
OS Version: Windows 11 23H2 22635
Browser: Edge and Firefox

  • Hi @bedesv, thanks for reaching out!

I'm sorry that you're experiencing this behaviour. At the moment it sounds like there may be a connection issue between the 1Password extension and desktop app which could be resulting in this behaviour. In order to take a closer look at what's going on and best assist you moving forward, can you send over some diagnostics, so that we can take a closer look:

Thanks for confirming the ID! I've located the ticket and a member of the Support team will be in touch. Let's continue the conversation over there, and I'll close this thread to prevent having the same conversation in two different places. 🙂
