Weird Passkey behavior in Firefox

This morning, I tried logging in to a site with a Passkey. This has regularly worked for a while now, but this morning I'm seeing an empty (and transparent) Passkey dialog:. Sorry that the background is so dark.

Any others experience this and if so, any solutions?

  • Hi @wfolta, thanks for reaching out!

    I'm sorry that you're encountering strange behaviour with the display of the passkey dialog. I have a few questions regarding the situation:

    1. What website did you experience this on? Can you share the URL?
    2. Are you encountering the same behaviour any time you try to use a passkey in your browser now?
    3. Do you have any other browser extensions installed?

    I look forward to hearing from you!

    I found that even though the pop-up was transparent, if I hit Enter that still "clicked on" the (invisible) button to use the Passkey. After a couple of attempts, I eventually got logged in.

    This morning, I quit Firefox and relaunched and it is working as normal. The only thing that would be slightly different, perhaps, is that immediately before I quit Firefox, I tried and got the pop-up, below. Once I unlocked 1Password, I was back to the transparent pop-up. That's when I quit Firefox and relaunched, so 1Password was unlocked when Firefox launched, if that makes any difference.

    I'd rather not be too specific about the URL but it is for a timecard keeping system.

    In Firefox, I have the Sandbox extension enabled and Simple Tab Groups -- my whole reason for using Firefox over Safari is the sandboxing. The timecard keeping system is in its own Tab Group and also its own Sandbox.

    Thanks for sharing those details! Can you clarify if the sandbox extension you're referring to is Firefox Multi-Account Containers or another extension? Can you also confirm if the behaviour is only occurring on the timecard webpage when using the extension, or on all web pages where you try to sign in with a passkey?

    Right, I guess the Firefox name is "containers" rather than "sandboxes". Sorry for the confusion.

    @wolfta

    Thanks for clarifying! I haven't been able to re-create the behaviour on my end. Can you reproduce the behaviour and send a console log from your browser, so that we can take a closer look? Additionally, can you confirm if you encounter the same issue with the passkey prompt on any other websites while using the Firefox containers?

    Please attach the console log to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com with a link to this thread. After sending the email, you’ll receive a reply from BitBot, our friendly robot assistant with a Support ID that looks something like [#ABC-12345-678]. Post that here, and I’ll be able to locate your message and make sure it’s gotten to the right place.

    I look forward to hearing from you!
