Adding date to birth date field requires over 700 mouse clicks

If you want to add a birth date using the 1P Birth Date field, manual entry is not allowed, you must click on the appropriate date on the pop-up calendar. The calendar for the Birth Date field pops up by default to today's date, i.e., 07/13/2024.

To enter your birth date, click on the left arrow next to month to get to the appropriate birthday year. 12 clicks per year x the number of years between the current year and the birth year.

For someone born in, say, 1965, this would require over 700 mouse clicks to get the calendar to the year 1965. (59 years x 12 months per year = too many mouse clicks required)

Suggestion 1 - allow the year number at the top of the calendar to allow manual entry.
Suggestion 2 - allow manual entry into the birth date field (allowing users to type in the birth day, month. and year.

Thanks - Rob

It's especially nasty to click, because there are months with 6 week rows, so you have to reposition the mouse. If you fail this and click out of the date picker, it closes and you have to start again.
This date picker is not well designed.

Oy!! I never got that far. Once I realized that I'd have to spend hundreds of mouse clicks just to enter a date, I let it go and reported it here as a finding. Thank you for your comment and input.

  • Hello @Tertius3 and @cage22! 👋

Thank you for the feedback regarding the date picker. I've passed it along to the team so that they can look into improving the experience in the future.

For the time being, you can click on the individual sections of the date field to manually type in your month/day/year without using the date picker itself:

    I hope that helps. 🙂

Hi Dave. I couldn't get that to work - at first. It's tricky. You kinda have to pick any date on the calendar - even if it's the wrong date, and then keep clicking on the field you pointed to with the red arrow until it's highlighted AND the calendar pop-up goes away. THEN you can enter a date manually. It's VERY difficult to get the text entry field to highlight and NOT have the calendar pop up. But I got it to work. Whew! Thank you for the tip and passing the suggestion on to the programmer team.

This is a horrible date picker, it's basically impossible to select a date that is far away and AGAIN doesn't support your local date format (this has been a long time issue). Why is this so hard for 1Password to do???

  • Hi @EggsAndAvo, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback regarding the date picker. I've passed this along to our Product team to see if this can be improved moving forwards.

Regarding dates not showing in the local format when editing an item, this is a known issue our team are working on at the moment, and I've added your case to the issue on file. We do apologise for any inconvenience caused.

This is really frustrating. Dave, you can't manually type in the date, the only way the calendar works is to arrow back over and over. This is pretty crucial. Thanks

Unfortunately, and I’m just guessing, this issue is very low priority, considering the apps primary purpose. But, for now, It's tricky but there is a way to manually enter dates, it’s just not obvious. You kinda have to pick any date on the calendar - even if it's the wrong date, and then keep clicking on the field Dave pointed to above in his reply with the red arrow until it's highlighted AND the calendar pop-up goes away. THEN you can enter a date manually. It's VERY difficult to get the text entry field to highlight and NOT have the calendar pop up.

Yeah, I keep getting that response, basically, "why do you need to ___________". They don't see the need to change categories, or allow for the existing categories to be linked during .csv import. I've been using a "password" manager for years, since the Treo days and have expanded into tracking almost everything that needs to be tracked and am finding 1password extremely inflexible. It seems to me they are focusing too narrowly and missing a whole sector of potential customers. Why not 1Everything?

Ok, rant over, I'll try your suggestion - and thanks.

Maybe 1Password isn’t a great match for you. Have you tried others?

  • @TerriP

I'm sorry that editing and adding dates isn't as easy as it should be. 1Password for Windows should allow you to dismiss the date picker prompt by clicking on the date field and then typing in the value that you'd like to add. There is a known issue where this sometimes won't work properly and our development team is investigating.

I've passed your comments along to the team and hopefully improvements are made in a future update to 1Password.

For the time being, if you click twice on the date field (once to dismiss the prompt and once to select that field) are you able to use your keyboard to enter a number value? See the following recording:

You might need to click an additional time which is the bug that our developers are looking into. I look forward to hearing from you.

Dave, thank you. I’ll try on Windows. I do most of my editing on my phone, but this sounds great!

  • @TerriP

Let me know if you run into any issues!
