    I'm having the same issue. Apple Watch 6 running 10.5. Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch 2021 running Sonoma 14.5. I've done these things: (1) unpaired and re-paired my Apple Watch; (2) disabled AW Unlock in 1PW, disabled AW Unlock on my MBP, turned off my Mac; (3) restarted my AW; (4) turned on my MBP; (5) enabled AW Unlock in MBP Settings; (6) enabled AW Unlock in 1PW; (7) removed and reinstalled the 1PW Safari extension; and (8) reinstalled 1PW for Mac. Nothing has worked. Even though I have 1PW "Auto-Lock" set to "Never", 1PW keeps automatically locking whenever I click the red dot in the upper left corner. I've been a 1PW user since 1PW first came on the market. I'm VERY frustrated!

    1PW keeps automatically locking whenever I click the red dot in the upper left corner.

    Enable this setting: 1Password > Preferences (Settings) > General - Keep 1Password in the menu bar

    @Dave_1P and @ag_tommy

    I am also experiencing this issue and it's been occurring only since (macOS membership) 1PW update v8.10.36.
    When attempting a 1st (daily) login to any website, 1PW pops a dialogue saying "...1PW is trying to unlock. Enter your password. You need to enter your account password before you can use your Apple Watch unlock."

    {My prior awakening from locked, Studio Display to access desktop, continues allowing my Watch to gain desktop access. As result, I don't believe there's an issue caused by macOS.}

    Prior to v8.10.36, I did not have this issue with my Watch9. ...I'm convinced issue is a bug related to v8.10.36.

    macOS 14.5; watchOS 10.5; iOS 17.5.1

    @pbGuy

    There seems to be an issue with 8.10.36 as you mentioned. I'm not exactly sure where the issue is. The team is looking to resolve this. I've added your report to those who reported the same situation.

    I apologize for any inconvenience it has caused.

    Another "Me, too" response.
    Equipment:
    • Apple Watch Ultra & watchOS 10.5
    • iMac: Oct 2020, 27” 5K display, 500 GB SSD, macOS 14.5

    Opening with my Apple Watch had been trouble free...and then it suddenly stopped working after the update to the latest version of 1Password. I do hope you fix this.

  • @waf and @BikerBob38

    I'm sorry that you're unable to use your Apple Watch to unlock 1Password. If you send in a diagnostics report then our team may be able to provide a workaround for your specific situation while we wait for a fix from our development team:

    Sending Diagnostics Reports (Mac)

    Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.

    With your email please include:

    Please send the entire file.

    You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!

    If a fix is not quickly forthcoming, how about allowing 1PW-Mac users to revert to an earlier software version that would permit us to unlock 1PW-Mac with our Apple Watches?

    I reported the same problem and they responded with these instructions for rolling back 1P:

    ausing. Our Development team are already investigating and working on a fix and I'll add you to our internal tracker for that issue.

    Our testing has found that the previous build of 1Password 8 works as expected with Touch ID or an Apple Watch, so (if you’d like to) could you try rolling back to that build instead? Here's what to do:

    ℹ️ Note: Your Logins and other data (including settings) are kept separately, so won't be affected by this process.

    Quit all open web browsers.
    Right-click the 1Password icon in the menu bar (if it's there), then Quit.
    Drag 1Password 8 from the Applications folder to the Trash. Do not use an "app cleaner" or "uninstaller" tool to remove the app or additional files. If prompted, enter the password you use to sign in to your Mac.
    Restart your Mac.
    Download the relevant installer for the previous build of 1Password:
    https://c.1password.com/dist/1P/mac8/1Password-8.10.34-x86_64.zip (Intel build)
    https://c.1password.com/dist/1P/mac8/1Password-8.10.34-aarch64.zip (Apple Silicon build)
    Quit any open web browsers and then install 1Password 8.
    Open and unlock 1Password before opening your web browser.
    Make sure to turn off automatic updates until the issue is fixed:

    Open and unlock 1Password.
    Click the 🔽 down arrow at the top of the sidebar and choose Settings....
    On the Advanced tab, turn off "Install updates automatically".
    We’ll notify you when the issue has been resolved and you can then update 1Password to receive the fix.

    Alternatively, you can continue to enter your account password when prompted for now and await the fix in a future update. Please let me know if you have any questions, or would like any further help.

    How does one roll back to v8.10.34?

    If there's a post somewhere, please post a link to it. Thanks.

    Those instructions are just above, in this thread, no? If you can't find them...read on:

  • Hello @pbGuy! 👋

    I'm sorry that you're also running into issues with Apple Watch unlock. So that the team can advise on workarounds for your specific situation, I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your Mac:

    @Dave_1P

    You'll note from my post on 7/19, I believe 8.10.36 is the cause of this Watch issue as it did not occur in 8.10.34.

    It seems an Update may not be immediately forthcoming; and as result, I prefer rolling back my 8.10.36 (Membership) install to 8.10.34. If that cannot be done or is not recommended, I'll grin and bear the issue until the next Update.

    pbGuy, the fact that Dave didn't give you instructions on how to rollback to a previous 1PW version strongly suggests that 1PW support needs diagnostic reports from everyone. It's easy to create and send in a diagnostic report. Rolling back to the most recent previous version works to fix the Apple Watch issue. When you send in your diagnostic report, you'll receive an email with these instructions:

    This is a known issue with unlocking the latest version of 1Password for Mac using Touch ID or an Apple Watch, and I’m sorry for the inconvenience that’s causing. Our Development team are already investigating and working on a fix and I'll add you to our internal tracker for that issue.

    @pbGuy

    Our support team over on the email side can suggest a workaround for your specific situation, including possibly a rollback to a previous version with steps tailored for your Mac, that can help while we wait for a fix from our development team. I recommend emailing them for assistance: support+forum@1password.com

    There are a few different issues with Apple Watch unlock at the moment and the only way for me to verify the specific issue that you're running into is by taking a look at a diagnostics report from 1Password on your Mac. That being said, our developers are actively working on fixes for most of the known issues and hopefully those fixes are released soon.

    Thank you for posting the Support ID, I've moved your ticket to the right team and one of my colleagues will send you an email as soon as possible with their findings and recommendations.

    To prevent having the same conversation in multiple places at once, I'll close this thread.
