Can MrC Converter Suite import Wireless Router category items? [Implemented, Solved]

I used the converter suite to import my 1Password data (it came from a combination of sources which I massaged into a CSV to enable the most effective use). That worked great. In looking at the documentation, I don't see "Wireless Router" as a supported category, but admittedly am not positive I've exhausted all possible locations (of support for MrC CS).

Is it supported?

I have quite a few router entries and due to something I read that allows some special (1Password) features of that category, I'm considering trying to migrate them en-mass. I can brute-force them but was curious if the converter is an option.

Thanks in advance!

Mark

I think you may be the first to ask for a Wireless Router category in the csv converter. I can add this support for you. I'll get this done today.

I've posted an update in the mrc-converter-suite - development version folder at the suite's download home.

Here's the new entry in the CSV section of the README:

    Sample conversion and import:

    perl convert.pl csv -v testfiles/csv/wireless.csv
    Import summary:
        2 items discovered
    Export summary:
        2 Wireless Router items
        2 total items
You may now import the file below into 1Password 8:
        /Users/cappella/Desktop/MCS_converted.1pux

    Sample CSV file:

    "Title","Base Station Name","base station password","server / IP address","AirPort ID","network name","wireless security","wireless network password","attached storage password","Notes"
    "Dog Router","Dog Router","A dog's life is good","192.168.2.1","Air Dog Router","Air Dog","wpa2 personal","Air Dog's net passwd","Air Dog's storage passwd","Help me if lost"
    "Cat Router","Cat Router","A cat's life is dull","192.168.3.1","Flying Cat Router","Flying Dog","wpa3 enterprise","Flying Cat's net passwd","Flying Cat's storage passwd","Keep me if found"

Let me know how this works for you.

Well, that's certainly the promptest, most complete, and all-around best response I think I've ever seen in a forum like this. Now I'll feel GUILTY if I don't try it!!! hahahah (I will, but likely won't be as "Johnnie on the spot" as you!). Thank you very much. I'll definitely close the loop once I've given it a try (maybe within the next 3 days or so?). Thanks again! Mark

    That's very kind of you @MStepan .

Since the converter suite was designed for customization, consider this implementation as the baseline. I can provide you with a version more tailored to your personal requirements.

Looking forward to hear of your results.

Short version: Worked like a charm!!!

    Longer version:

    • To be honest, once I looked at my data a little closer (after I exported it from 1PW), I could have used brute-force in probably less time, but it also wouldn’t have been nearly as satisfying!
    • I’m generally the type of person that likes to build things myself, but there are a handful of cases where TOOLS (like this one) can REALLY help.
    • I also have to admit that it took me a little bit of time to “re-acclimate” myself to everything related to Export, Import, Convert, etc. When I did it initially, that was (ironically) almost exactly 1 year ago and due to the smoothness of the processes involved, I only needed to use it for a couple of passes.
    • Since MrC took the time to add a new feature, I felt compelled to USE it, and I'm glad I did (because it could come in handy again)!

I’m retired now, but spent 40+ years in the IT business, most of which were in various aspects of the development cycle (and in the trenches so to speak). With all humility, I think I know thoroughness and completeness when I see it. This tool is a great example.

Seriously, I’m not trying to earn brownie points or anything, but I am truly impressed:

    • You added the feature in minutes.
    • It was complete with documentation.
    • It worked as described.
    • It’s a very flexible and handy little process.

One last comment: As I was looking at my previous Excel files, I came across a column called "Tags", which obviously wasn't mentioned in the (specific) Wireless Router stuff, but as I was mulling (and trying to think back a year! haha), I noticed the "Additional Columns" area. It's as though you anticipated my questions, hahahahah.

MrC, thank you so much for your attention to detail, timeliness, responsiveness, etc. Have a great day. One big thumbs up and a set of kudos from me. Keep up the good work.

    Sincerely, Mark
