[parts.ford.com] Issues with signing in automatically after autofill

Over the past month or so, a presumably "new" feature is driving me absolutely batty.

I try to log in to a website that asks me to reset my password (part.ford.com). I try logging in, but since my password was not saved since my last login, I have to "reset" my password. I follow an emailed password reset link, I re-enter a new password.

The second I choose 1PW's recommended new replacement password, the 1PW pop-up box asking if I want to update my old login password flashes on-screen for a split-second, but then it also auto-logs me in, the pop-up screen disappears, and the new password is never saved.

I do not have enough time to copy (and later paste) the updated password into the 1PW program. I cannot even click the "Update" button on the 1PW pop-up window fast enough before I am auto-logged in and the pop-up window disappears. I have no way of retrieving the "new" password.

I did not choose this "new" feature, and I do not want it. I found another related thread topic here that someone suggested right clicking their browser's 1PW toolbar icon, going to "Settings", go to "Auto-fill and save", then un-selecting "Sign in automatically after auto-fill". I tried this and it did nothing. I also tried un-selecting "Stop competing "sign-in with" pop-ups in the browser", and "Offer to save items in Autofill suggestions", to no avail. I now have to essentially reset my password each and every time I try logging into this website.

This isn't the end of the world as I know it, but I have to say this is about as frustrating of an experirence as I've had in the past couple of years I have been using 1PW.

So is the step-by-step outlined here the "workaround" for this issue? I ask because I believe my problem is related.

I found another related thread topic here that someone suggested right clicking their browser's 1PW toolbar icon, going to "Settings", go to "Auto-fill and save", then un-selecting "Sign in automatically after auto-fill". (Note that I did start my own thread in the Windows sub-forum on 8/3/2024, with no responses yet)

  • Hello @RCxRC! 👋

I've merged both of your comments into one thread so that we can keep the conversation in the same place.

I've been able to reproduce the issue here on my end and it looks like the page is submitting the password and refreshing the page as soon as a password is filled by 1Password. This occurs even when autosubmit is turned off. I've filed a report with our development team have them look into this further. For the time being, you can workaround the issue by generating the password using the pop-up and copy and pasting it into the website instead of filling it:

    1. Open your browser.
    2. Navigate to https://parts.ford.com/ and go through the password reset process until you're asked for a new password. Do not click on the suggested password.
    3. Click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar.
    4. Select your login for parts.ford.com and click Edit.
    5. Click on the password field and generate a new password. Then Save the item.
    6. Go back to the Ford password reset page.
    7. Click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar.
    8. Select your login for parts.ford.com, hover over the password field and copy the password to your clipboard.
    9. Paste the password into the password field on the webpage. Do not try to fill it or use the suggested password. Then click Submit.

The next time that you login to parts.ford.com make sure that you choose Sign In and not Update Password:

Let me know if you run into any issues.

Yes, I did something similar of a workaround & eventually got it to work (without the necessity of re-creating a PW at each login). Rather than click on the newly auto-generated PW pop-up (while on the website), I navigated to my toolbar & opened the 1PW app on my laptop to re-generate a new PW, saved it, then copied & pasted it back into the website. Subsequent re-login's did not suffer the same consequences as I had previously experienced. Note that I had not previously been clicking the "Update password" link at the initial login page (where it asks if you are an individual or business), but did have to at the actual login page (where credentials were entered).

    Thanks.

  • I'm happy that you were able to workaround the issue. Hopefully our developers can release a permanent fix in a future update to 1Password in the browser. I'm sorry again for the inconvenience.
