Issue with Auto Save in Safari

I have had two instances where this was an issue. One just happened where my login to this community was missing from my 1pass so I did a password reset. In the email I clicked on link to reset password. I clicked on the 1pass extension in safari and used the suggested generated password for the site. It populated the boxes. The autosave box popup to ask to save new or existing password appeared but it then immediately disappeared. This of course meant that the generated password is lost and now had to do a password reset again. The second time the auto save box popped up. I also never save the password right away, since upon submittal there could be an issue with password entered (too long, etc). Always save after I get a successful submission.

The second issue was the other day. I was asked to update a password. I again used the browser extension and used the generated password provided. It populated the site and immediately brought up the autosave. The issue this time is there are a large number of logins for this site saved in 1password.across my family, work, etc. Thus the popup was too long and did not show the "submit" button on the bottom. There is no scroll bar to get to the button. Scrolling all the way down the page or all the way up also did not shift the 1pass autosave window. Pressing tab did not help. Going full screen or expanding the window didn't help either. Thus I could not save the login at all. When I tried Tab the top section disappeared where you could choose to save as a new or existing login and I was trying to get back to "new" since I would at least have the submit button to get the generated login saved and could at least manually copy the password over so I didn't loose it.

One issue with using "suggested" passwords that popup in the field or.... clicking on the browser extension and choosing the "generated Password" that is highlighted is that they don't save immediately as a "Password". There are numerous times I have had issues where current auto save functionality just disappears. or you go to submit a new password to a site and 1password does not recognize that a new password was submitted to popup the "Save or replace login box. In 1Password 7 and earlier, I would never choose the suggested password for this reason, as well as the one I will state below, and would always click the "generate password" button and autofill, since that would always save the password to 1password and could easily be recovered and copied to an existing login.

In 1pass 8 How is the length off the password configured for the suggested password as well as the "generated Password" that is shown in the browser extension. The extension says the password is based on meeting the sites requirements but..... they are like 18 characters doing. for example, for this site I needed to re-do my password since I couldn't find my login in 1pass from the past and it came up as only 18 and if I did my own I can easily do 25. I tend to don 25+ for everything unless a site restricts it being smaller. This is also why I have never used the "suggested" password. No way to change that. Plus the fact it never autosaves in 1pass once selected for the site.

This has happened again. This time I was creating a new account. Used the suggested password. I was presented with the auto save box. I waited until I submitted the password to ensure no issues. Auto save box popped back up and I tried to save but the save button was no clickable. I then had to reset the password and try again. This time I used the generated password presented. Same thing happened.

  • Hello @imt! 👋

I'm sorry that you're running into issues with the autosave feature. I tried to duplicate your test with the community when resetting a password but everything appears to be working on my end. The 1Password prompt will wait for you to save the new password before it disappears. Just to confirm: can you still reproduce the issue on the forum using 1Password in the browser version 2.27.1?

The second issue was the other day. I was asked to update a password. I again used the browser extension and used the generated password provided. It populated the site and immediately brought up the autosave. The issue this time is there are a large number of logins for this site saved in 1password.across my family, work, etc. Thus the popup was too long and did not show the "submit" button on the bottom. There is no scroll bar to get to the button.

I'm sorry that you're unable to scroll the 1Password prompt when you have a lot of saved items. This is a known issue that our development team is aware of and is investigating. For the time being, try this workaround:

    1. When you are suggested to update an existing login item, click New Item instead.
    2. Next to the item, click the Edit button.
    3. In the pop-up window that appears, switch to Update existing and choose the item you'd like to update there.

Let me know if that helps. 🙂
