I have two groups of family members, n and m. I’d like individuals in both groups to have their own private vaults and to share the main vault. However, I don’t want people in group m to see the people in group n, and vice versa. In other words, do all family members need to see all other family members?

Users would know they are part of a share. They would know each other is present if they are part of the same shared vault.

You could share one vault with group N and another with group M. This is how I maintain vaults share between my sons so one does not know the contents of the others vaults.

I have the following for my setup. It might give you some ideas.

    Tom > My Private/Personal vault.
    Son 1 > Their Private/Personal vault.
    Son 2 > Their Private/Personal vault.

Tom < shared vault > Son 1 only
Tom < shared vault > Son 2 only

Tom, Son 1, Son 2, etc. < default family account shared vault >

Great, that's really helpful. Here're some follow-up questions. Let's say you also had "Son 3," such that:

    Son 3 > Their private/Personal vault
    Tom Son 3 only

    1. Would Son 3 automatically be part of the ?

    2. Would Sons 1 & 2 see Son 3 anywhere, or know that Son 3 is participating in this same 1Password account? (And vice versa, would Son 3 know about Sons 1 & 2?)

    Thanks!

No, any shares I or you would create are by default shared to no one. In essence they are plain vaults for your use.

All family members get their own Personal/Private vault. So if they are part of the family they would have their own vault named accordingly.

The point where the other users could be revealed is if Son 3 were to create and share a vault with Son 1 (or me) for example. If they start typing in the email (needed to share the vault) the presence of the other user could be reveal as a suggestion.

Because a family has the shared vault. It's very possible someone would see the members. For example if they are all part of the default shared vault they would know about the others. If you select the fault in 1Password and look in the 3rd pane you'll see a few tiles for users. This might reveal the users to one another.
