This has been happening to me on Fedora Silverblue (installed via rpm-ostree) but I haven't had the time to dig deeper. Now it started happening on my Mac that I use for work. When I look at the logs, I see a log like below:

[1P:app/op-app/src/app.rs:565] Application binary and/or it's directory was moved or replaced, exiting.

I have no idea why this is happening. When I restart the app after it dies, Mac shows me a dialog for reporting the incident. I always reported hoping that this would gets fixed with an update. Wanted to create this question as it continues for the last 1 week or so.

Note that this seems to be happening on my colleagues' computers as well. Will try to confirm the log.

1Password Version: 8.10.39
Extension Version: 2.27.1
OS Version: macOS Sonoma 14.6.1
Browser: Brave v1.68.141

I can confirm that other colleagues' have the same log on their computers. We have at least 8 people that encounter this issue.

  • Hello @tunix! 👋

I'm sorry that 1Password is crashing on your Mac. I've seen this behaviour before when an organization was using a script to try to replace the 1Password app file while 1Password's processes were still active and running on the Mac as part of a manual update attempt. That would match the log line that you posted.

Can you reach out to your employer's IT team to ask if your organization is using such a script? If they are then I would suggest that they switch to using the PKG installer to update 1Password: Deploy 1Password for Mac and Windows

Let me know if you have any questions or if they're not using such a script or process.
