Feature request: always offer new password

If 1password is idle (no inputs detected or sites found, it shows the default cards, there should also be a option for anew password, as some sites may have some extra steps before a entry can be saved.

Many times i found myself typing some random things instead of using a true random password. Because the plug-in was not jet ready to save a record due to page design or additional steps required.

  • Hello @nullx8! 👋

Thank you for the feedback! Can you tell me a little more about the scenario that you're describing? Are you saying that you're being prompted for a password on a website but that 1Password isn't offering to generate that password? You should see the following underneath any field that asks for a new password:

Alternatively, you can create a custom password from any page by using the password generator: Create a custom password

I look forward to hearing from you.

hello, this only happens when 1password does NOT detect a password may be needed, in that scenario it just represents the default cards in the extension and nothing in the input itself (which is totally fine and as expected) .. but in this case it would just great if the extension would be able to also provide a unrelated suggested password which the user can just copy.
here is a example .. i just went to a random site, where i have no account, so 1password does not know about it .. all i see is the default cards i can use to auto-fill... but in many situations i may filling a form that will lead to a signup later on, but at this stage i not really have a actual account or password, and 1password can;t categorise it .. the best way would be to have in the default dialog just add a random password that has no relation to anything i can just copy and paste if needed.

plus, this could also be used outside of 1password .. like if you quickly need a password on another location outside of the browser where is no integration present.

just a nice thing to have.

another situation is if a application or website will ask you for a password first ..
like if you do following a invite-link, in that case there will also be no suggestion, as 1password does not really know what i'm tying to do, due the lack of context, which is totally to be expected.
a general password suggestion that is always present would fix this, and would make the extention and app useful for other things (like if you just need somethings random real quick) :)

another situation (as a example that fits outside the scope of 1password)
deploy a virtual machine, fail to add the RSA key, so do the console login instead, and the first thing the terminal will ask is to set a password. so you "just" gonna need a password, quickly, without looking around .. just "gimme a password, i will save it later" that kind of thing :)

I'm glad that the password generator is useful. It sounds like it'll be able to fit your needs? Let me know if I misunderstood. 🙂
