I'm also having this issue. Super annoying FWIW, I've got 500 passwords in there that may or may not be duplicated, and I can't spend the time to compare each of them to my other vaults, at least one of which has > 1,000 passwords! We also use many shared vaults at my business. I hope you're able to work this out for future migrations, this should definitely be something the app does for you - confirm if an item is already present in your vault and not import it twice. I'll guess I'll have to also reach out to support to address the issue - thanks.

I'm sorry that you're seeing a lot of duplicates. If you send an email to support+forum@1Password.com then the team can take a look at your specific situation and offer suggestions on how best to resolve it.

Once you're received the auto-reply, post your Support ID here (it'll look something like [#ABC-12345-678]) and I'll make sure that the ticket makes it to the right team.

Thanks Dave - my support ticket is #ZJD-52249-376. I got a reply that you added a find duplicate feature to watchtower, and I tried that out, but it didn't work. For some reason, it only seems to shows duplicates that are in the same vault as each other. Any duplicates across different vaults, which are all of the duplicates in the "imported default" folder, do not show up in the duplicate report. Can this be fixed? I’d really love to get these duplicates removed, they’re driving me crazy a thousand times a day :( Thanks again!

Actually, I'd love to share feedback about the answer from support. They stated that duplicate removal doesn't work across vaults on purpose, because people might accidentally delete things from the wrong vault. But this seems like an easy thing for software to address:

When selecting “remove duplicates”, simply allow user checkboxes to pick among which vault(s) any duplicates should be removed from. Any unchecked vaults (eg shared vault, employee vault) would not have any of its items removed. You could even default to only the current vault being checked, so it would work as it currently does unless user intentionally expands to include another vault, ie the infamous imported vault. In situations like that, user could even uncheck current vault and check imported vault, so only duplicates found in the imported vault will be deleted.

This approach would be far superior to support's suggestion of merging the vaults, then find duplicates in the merged vault. What if I don't want those vaults merged? Thanks Dave!

Thank you for the feedback! I've shared your comments with the team and I see that my colleague has already filed a feature request on your behalf.

Since we have an ongoing conversation via email, I'll close this thread to avoid duplicating efforts. If you have any other questions, or require more assistance with this issue, then please reply to my colleague's email from Wednesday.
