I either missed a step or did something wrong because the suggested steps above did not work. I still receive the same "appears" error message.

Anyhow, I noticed you posted new Nightly downloads on the following website link:
    https://app-updates.agilebits.com/product_history/OPM8

However, it appears none of the "zip" files are available for download; I get 404 messages for all the download links.

Could you post a valid download link to the newest MACOS Sept 13, 2024 Nightly install file?

I'm sorry that you're still seeing issues. If you're seeing the same error then that suggests that all of 1Password's folders weren't removed. Can you make sure that you've removed all of your data as described here:

There are a few different folders to empty, make sure that you drag all of them to the Trash. Then empty the Trash and restart your Mac.

However, it appears none of the "zip" files are available for download; I get 404 messages for all the download links.

We don't publish download links for specific nightly versions. Let me know if you continue to see the issue after dragging all of the specified folders to the Trash and restarting your Mac one more time.

@1P_JPW I was doing this on my other Mac and ran into the same problem - it turns out I forgot remove those files from the ~/Library/Group Containers folder. So I started over and really did all the steps again and it worked. (Seems like there should be a slightly more streamlined way of removing 1Password completely on a Mac...)

I'm not sure what the problem was; my MacOS would not let me delete the 1Password folders found in ~/Library/Containers/ and ~/Library/Group Containers/, so I ended up just renaming the folders to "old1" and "old2."

Then, I successfully reinstalled 1Password for Mac to version (8.10.44-81044034 on the PRODUCTION channel version).

Has the software bug been corrected in the newest Nightly version, and if so, can I select the Nightly release channel?

The latest nightly download on the page you mentioned (https://app-updates.agilebits.com/product_history/OPM8) fixes the issue for me. I didn't have to delete any 1Password data in the end, simply updating to the latest nightly version allowed me to open 1Password using the same data that was causing the "Your saved data appears to be newer than this version of 1Password can use" error.

The "download" links on that page on their own don't work, but if you take a look at the URL for each "download" link you'll see "$ARCH" at the end. Replace that with whatever's appropriate for your machine. I have an M1 MacBook Pro, so "aarch64" is what I used (so the latest nightly can be downloaded using this URL: https://c.1password.com/dist/1P/mac8/1Password-8.10.46-28.NIGHTLY-aarch64.zip). If you're on an Intel machine, you'd replace "$ARCH" with "x86_64" instead.

The zip file contains the 1Password app itself - not an installer (like the normal download links contain) - so after expanding the zip file you need to drag the resulting "1Password.app" into your Applications folder and choose to replace the older version.

Thank you for posting the download link trick.

  • I'm glad that you're up and running again. 🙂
