1Password (nightly) Chrome extension breaks iCloud login, AND may force iCloud PW reset

If the 1PW Chrome extension is enabled, attempting to log in to iCloud.com results in the grayed-out return button (which is an arrow). This issue is consistent and can be resolved by disabling the extension. Disabling the extension allows for a normal login process (without the 1PW feature, of course).

This bug might also trigger iCloud to constantly demand a password reset. Although I haven’t confirmed that aspect is a result of 1PW, it seems like there’s a conflict between 1PW and iCloud, which is causing security issues at Apple.

1Password Version: Mac 8.10.48 (81048001)
Extension Version: 8.10.48.1
OS Version: Version 15.1 Beta (24B5046f)
Browser: Version 130.0.6723.6 (Official Build) beta (arm64)

  • Hello @spinoza! 👋

Thanks for reporting the issue! We've been able to reproduce the behaviour here on our end and our development team is investigating. The issue only seems to affect the beta/nightly at this time and there are two workarounds that I can share:

    1. Use the stable version of the 1Password extension instead of the nightly: 1Password – Password Manager - Chrome Web Store
    2. When filling your login, don't click on the suggestion in the filling menu that appears below the email field on iCloud.com. Instead, click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar and click Autofill there. That seems to avoid the issue.

    I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
