1Password7.app - "Allow in the Background"

Doing some software updates and housekeeping. On my MacBook Settings, General, Login Items & Extensions, I see:

1Password7.app 12-57-36-375.app

Obviously old as I've been on 1Password 8 for some time. I've disabled the item, but would like to get rid of it. No such app exists on my machine, nor is there an entry in:

/Library/LaunchDaemons
/Library/LaunchAgents

Please advise on how to remove this item.

Thanks!

  • Hi there @JAC3467

    Have you also checked ~/Library/?

Hold the ⌥ Option key and click the Go menu in Finder > Library. Then check LaunchAgents there too, and make sure to restart your Mac.

Let me know how that goes.

    Hi Grey,

Thanks for the reply, but nothing in any of those folders, and a reboot didn't change things either, with the "Allow in the Background" entry still there. Digging around more, If found this command (documented here):

    sfltool dumpbtm

which when run from Terminal dumps a whole bunch of stuff, including this entry:

    5:
                     UUID: D8F61331-8D4D-4E9C-9546-B7AF51F73889
                    Name: 1Password 7
    Developer Name: AgileBits Inc.
      Team Identifier: 2BUA8C4S2C
                      Type: app (0x2)
                     Flags: [ sandboxed ] (0x40)
Disposition: [disabled, allowed, visible, not notified] (0x2)
               Identifier: 2.com.agilebits.onepassword7
                        URL: file:///Users/xxxxxxxx/.Trash/1Password%207.app%2012-57-36-375.app/
             Generation: 7
    Bundle Identifier: com.agilebits.onepassword7

My username xxx'd out for privacy. My attempt to navigate to .Trash is not successful; no directory seems to exist. Nor do searches on 12-57-36-375 yield anything.

Nothing bad is going and at this point, just a puzzle to solve and an opportunity to learn.

    Got a suggested next step?

    Thanks,

    -Joe

Back again, while doing yardwork, it occurred to me that it might be in Trash and that's what .Trash was pointing to - which is a directory with some special characteristics. And so it was. I found the item, emptied Trash and the offending listing in Settings disappeared. So problem solved.

On a related note, I now know Finder searches don't scan Trash.

    Thanks for your help,

    -Joe
