In iOS, I can select 1Password as my preferred app for this (see the screenshot below.

But in macOS Sequoia, 1Password isn’t an option for this, only the Apple Passwords app. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Hello @LarryMcJ! 👋

Thanks for the question! 1Password doesn't use the macOS AutoFill feature on the Mac and I recommend that you turn off the "AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys" feature in the macOS Settings app in order to avoid conflicts with 1Password.

You can use 1Password in the browser to save your one-time passwords: Use 1Password as an authenticator for sites with two-factor authentication - In the 1Password browser extension

If you're looking to save a one-time password in a non-browser app then you can use the 1Password for Mac desktop app for that: Use 1Password as an authenticator for sites with two-factor authentication - In the 1Password apps

Thanks, Dave. Then you might want to remove this guidance from your site, as it tells me how to do what you're telling me not to do 😁. Thanks!

I'm sorry for the confusion. That page is for Universal Autofill which is a feature of the 1Password for Mac app. Universal AutoFill allows you to fill your login credentials, including one-time passwords, into apps on your Mac.

Universal Autofill is not related to the "macOS AutoFill" feature found in macOS > Settings > General > Autofill & Passwords. That's a macOS feature that 1Password does not use.

Sorry, Dave...my bad, I should have read it twice. I'm just getting frustrated trying everything I can think of to get 1Password to autofill in Safari (macOS) and as always, it's about 8 out of 10 times just fine, then it won't once or twice. Great example is trying to get ID.me to autofill on apple.com (to verify military status). Works great on every device I own...except my Mac. Here, it does not work 100% of the time.

  • @LarryMcJ

I'm sorry that your login information isn't being filled on ID.me. You said that you were trying to fill your login credentials for ID.me on Apple.com, when you try to sign in using ID.me does a web page with an ID.me website address open? Or is the page that you're trying to fill into on Apple.com itself?

Are you able to provide a screenshot of the page in question? Make sure that nothing sensitive is visible in the screenshot.

It's the correct ID.me page...screenshot below. NOTHING I do will make 1P autofill this page, I have to open the 1P app, copy the password, and manually paste it in.

But, if I configure the Apple Passwords app for the very same login info, it works perfectly, see the screenshot below.

Any further guidance for this issue? I provided the requested screenshot five days ago. Thanks.

  • @LarryMcJ

I'm sorry for the delay in responding, thank you for providing those screenshots. I've tested on my own Mac and I'm not able to reproduce the issue:

    image

When I click on the username field I see the 1Password icon and suggestion appear immediately. Can you confirm that you're clicking into the username field?

Can you also double-check that you have https://api.id.me/ saved as the website address for your ID.me credentials in 1Password?

Yes...and yes...and it's still not working. It's odd that all my other logins work just fine. I've already tried removing ID.me and adding it again, so now I'm going to completely uninstall 1P and reinstall it. I'll let you know if this resolves the issue.

Uninstalled 1P and the 1P Safari extension, then restarted. Downloaded and installed 1P, then the extension from the MAS, and did my usual customization of 1P settings. Got to "Browser" and it said 1P wasn't connected to the 1P Extension. Pasted the the suggested command into Terminal and the string matched, so tried again...still said it wasn't connected to the extension. I restarted again, and this time 1P was connected to its Safari extension. Now ID.me works just fine.

But can I get an AMEN that this shouldn't be the case, and that this would have been a major PITA for my grandma (rest her soul). No, it wasn't a big deal for me to do but I've a a long life in technology and been using 1P since the day it was first released. I don't know if the uninstall/reinstall fixed it, or the Terminal command and subsequent restart. But this is exactly what all the non-techies don't have to endure when they use the Apple Passwords app...it will always just work. Somewhere in this there is a marketing lesson 🙂. Thanks, Dave!

  • @LarryMcJ

I'm sorry for all of the troubleshooting that you had to do, that definitely isn't how things should work. If you do run into the issue again in the future then let me know and I can ask you for some log files that should tell me more about what's happening on your device so that the team can investigate this further.

In the meantime, I'll continue to try to reproduce the issue on my end so that I can investigate further.

Let me know if there's anything else that I can help you with.

Thanks, Dave. All seems to be fine now...I'll keep an eye on it.

  • Thank you! I'll keep an eye out for any messages from you in case you do run into other issues.
